Handling & Installation
- Handle with Care: Due to the geometric and sometimes delicate structures of the artwork, always pick up the piece by its structural frame or backing plate.
For artwork with Bismuth metal, avoid touching the crystalline structures directly, as you risk damaging the surface and natural skin oils can affect the iridescence over time. - Professional Mounting: Given the multi-layered depth and weight of many of the artworks, verify that all wall anchors match the specific weight of the piece. Heavy-duty D-rings or French cleats are highly recommended for flush, secure hanging.
Environmental Considerations
- Temperature & Moisture Control: Bismuth and copper are highly stable metals, but prolonged exposure to high humidity can gradually alter their patinas. Avoid displaying the artwork in humid locations such as bathrooms or directly above humidifiers. As with all fine art, do not display or store the piece out-of-doors or in unconditioned spaces.
- Sunlight Exposure: Acrylics and binding agents maintain their clarity best out of direct sunlight. Standard indoor ambient lighting or dedicated LED track lighting will beautifully highlight your artwork without risk.
Cleaning & Maintenance
- Dusting: Because of the complex, dimensional nooks created by bismuth crystals, wire typography, and dimensional objects, traditional wiping cloths can catch or leave lint behind. Use a soft-bristled makeup blending-style brush, or a photography bulb brush to gently blow or brush away dust from the artwork.
- Chemicals to Avoid: Never apply commercial glass cleaners, harsh solvents, chemical metal polishes, or liquid detergents to the piece. These can strip the iridescent oxide layer off the bismuth or degrade the acrylic components. If absolutely necessary, a lightly damp microfiber cloth can be used strictly on the external frame.
Repairs & Restoration
- Assessment & Estimates: In the unfortunate event your 5 Pebbles LLC artwork experiences damage, please contact the studio for an estimate of repair. We will instruct you on how to submit detailed, high-resolution photographs of the affected areas for review. We will evaluate the structural and aesthetic impact to provide a formal preliminary repair estimate.
- Studio Restoration Workflow: If the piece is deemed eligible for in-studio repair, the collector may ship the artwork back to our studio, at their own expense. Once received, the artist will provide a final estimate and execute the necessary repairs and restoration according to the approved estimate. Please contact the studio for full details.
- Alternative Restoration: For complex structural damage outside our studio’s immediate capabilities, or if an in-studio repair is not logistically feasible, collectors must consult a certified professional art restoration specialist who handles metal and acrylic polymer-based mixed media.
